PreK

Our PreK program welcomes children between the ages of 3 ½ and 5 years old. PreK is open five days a week from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Children must be potty-trained before joining our program.

As with all of our programs, PreK is child-directed and teacher-supported. The program is play-based and offers plenty of outdoor and nature-based experiences. Daily Circle Time activities vary from day to day, and on any given day, Circle Time activities might include:  stories, music, games, movement, or fun with letters and numbers. Arts and crafts feature prominently among our daily offerings as well, and of course, we integrate social and emotional learning into everything we do. At the PreK level our curriculum does not revolve around academics; however, academic activities are offered and available as applicable to each child’s individual needs and preferences.

Our PreK daily schedule is deliberately structured with enough flexibility to follow the lead of the child’s interests. This flexibility allows us to take advantage of spontaneous opportunities for learning and growth. We might build a castle together with wood scraps, or spend two weeks learning to identify birds and their calls on our playground. We also love to take advantage of beautiful weather with extended outside play time–and we bring our snacks and lunches outside as well!

A note about art:

Our emphasis is on process, not product.  Children at this age are more interested in exploring different textures and media than creating an artistic masterpiece suitable for the Louvre or even the refrigerator.
